Birthworker Program
Imani’s Village wants to develop Black doulas, childbirth educators, and breastfeeding professionals. Every year we recruit top candidates to join our birth collective. Birthworkers in our birth collective meet regularly to discuss topics that are pertinent to birthworkers serving underserved communities. Our birthworker program places heavy emphasis on self-reflection, professional development, advocacy, and community service. Our birthworkers are compensated for the doula services they provide to Black birthing families. Candidates for our birthworker program must go through our doula training/certification.

Birthworker Program
Our birthworker program has been the heart of our organization. It is composed of Black doulas who have trained and certified through Imani's Village, Inc who are then paired with Black birthing families to provide no cost doula services. Our birthworkers get compensated through our organization's various fundraising efforts.
We call them birthworkers because on top of being incredible doulas, many of them also carry additional credentials as childbirth educators and lactation specialities. We love having our birthworkers as part of our doula collective!
Our Birthworker Program develops:
Black doulas
Childbirth educators
Lactation professionals
